paul scholes

Where to start about Paul Scholes? Manchester United have had many great player over the years From  Carey and Rowley to the youth of Edward's and the rest of the busby babe's whose promise was cruelly cut down on a snow covered Munich runway. Right through to the holy trinity of Best law and Charlton, and on to Cantona Robson and keane,The list is endless, esteemed company indeed.
Safe to say our little ginger prince can rightly take his place amongst those legendary figures. My own first memory of him was at a youth team friendly against Bangor City FC. A United team which featured players such as  Gary and Phil Neville and David Beckham.I remember thinking that he looked like he should be smoking fags behind the school shed instead of playing professional football for manchester united;my opinion changed of course when he nearly scored from the halfway line straight from kick -off !,He went on to thrill, beguile, and enchant us for the next 18 years winning every honour in the game, and the total respect of player's and coach's around the globe.Sir Bobby charlton once said of him"Pauls name on the teamsheet bring's a smile to my face,"and the great sports writer Hugh Mcilvenny once wrote "Scholes is a player who makes football fans quicken their step on the way to the stadium".All this was done with the minimum of fuss of course,a rarity nowaday's of a player prefering to do his talking on the pitch;no wags or celebrity lifestyle for him.As the t-shirt say's in his honour "plays, shower, goes home.'The great French midfielder Zinedine Zidane called him the best player he ever played against.

Scholesey, it's been a pleasure.
